“Have to be Sick Sometimes”, CCA - Center of Contemporary Art - Tbilisi; 2023
While working on this performance, I was going through intense physical and mental pain.
The work attempts to live through the state of illness (both physical and mental) as an act of breaking out of everyday reality, as a possibility of transition to the "other" thinking, to the field of the mystical. A performance - as an attempt to pave the way for the real, which could be hidden behind the deceptive, illusory everyday life, through the one-time transgressive action performed in front of the audience.
While working on this performance, I was experiencing intense physical and mental pain. The work engages with the state of illness - both physical and mental - as a rupture from everyday reality and as a possibility of transition into another mode of thinking. The performance operates as a one-time transgressive act, attempting to access what may lie beyond the deceptive and illusory structures of daily life.
For this work, I created a snake avatar - a figure in which the boundary between the human and the non-human dissolves. This form exists outside social pressure and gendered expectations, allowing the body to act beyond these structures.
The sound structure combines synthetic signals and text, forming a stream of consciousness in which different temporal layers intersect.
